Gov. Rick Scott's decision to scuttle the relocation of a probation and parole office to North Hill could cost taxpayers as much as $1.5 million. The governor announced March 21 that the state had suspended plans to relocate the offices to the old Coca-Cola bottling plant located at 1625 N. Palafox St. That decision followed weeks of protest and legal threats by residents of the historic neighborhood who feared what effect the influx of ex-cons might have on crime rates, property values and public safety.
