| Governor appoints acting prisons chief |

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle has appointed a deputy attorney general as the acting head of the Department of Public Safety. The department oversees the state's prisons and jails. Rick Bissen will replace John Peyton as director of the Department of Public Safety, on an acting basis. Peyton is resigning to return to working in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Bissen will start his new position on Dec. 1. Bissen is a former Maui prosecuting attorney. |
