| State inmates may bump others from county jail |

If the Hall County Jail starts housing state inmates for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, there’s a chance the county may have to cease holding inmates for other counties or holding detainees for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “If something has to give, we might have to look at ICE, we might have to look at other counties,” Hall County Corrections Director Fred Ruiz said at the June 3 Hall County Board of Supervisors meeting. “But believe me, that is a much more enviable position than we’ve had before.” The issue came up regarding the language in the proposed contract that the county “shall make 80 to 100 beds available” to state inmates.
