An article on your May 21 front page titled “Prison concerns — Crossroads Correctional Center” seems to give both the Crossroads Correctional Center and the Montana Department of Corrections a black eye. This negative article about the CCA prison in Shelby, which contracts with the state of Montana to house Montana prisoners, is generated by concerns from state Sen. Terry Murphy, R-Cardwell, who is vice chairman of the Law & Justice Interim Committee and will be termed out of the Legislature at the end of this year. He asks, through the Legislature’s Law & Justice Interim Committee, that the FBI be asked to look at the Shelby prison, even though it is audited by the state of Montana and CCA yearly, by the ACA every three years, and it has maintained an exemplary compliance rating and a good overall relationship with Montana DOC.
