| Former Alabama prison officer acquitted of sexual misconduct charge with death row inmate |

WETUMPKA, Alabama — A jury on Wednesday acquitted a former corrections officer of a charge of sexual misconduct with a death row inmate at Alabama's women's prison. The acquittal of Matthew Hall, 33, of Montgomery follows a Justice Department review that found rampant officer-on-inmate sexual abuse and harassment at Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka. Since 2009, six Tutwiler employees have been convicted of crimes involving inmates. The state Department of Corrections is disappointed with the verdict and will keep striving to make every female inmate feel safe from sexual misconduct, according to a statement from spokeswoman Kristi Gates.
