| 'Take One' connects released prisoners with churches, nonprofit organizations |

Soon churches and nonprofits around Tennessee will open their doors and arms to offenders released from prison as part of a new mentor program. “We’re not asking for the church or nonprofit to come and give this offender everything,” said Deborah Thompson, director of religious and volunteer services at the Tennessee Department of Corrections. “We’re asking the church to teach them how to fish so they’ll know how to be productive citizens.” “Take One” is a community-based program where churches or faith-based nonprofits partner with TDOC to mentor one or more offenders.
