New Indiana Criminal Code Could Mean Less Jail Time

Criminals who commit lesser crimes in Indiana could now be serving less time in jail.

The changes include how crimes are classified. A class D felony will now be called a class six felony. Criminals charged with those crimes will be sent to community corrections programs including house arrest and therapy. Drug and theft crimes will also be based on price.

Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing says his department has already worked with the community corrections programs in Vigo County due to their previous overcrowding issues.
