BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) - Twelve weapons and 39 bulletproof vests went missing from the Louisiana Department of Corrections over the last four years and that number could be a lot greater, an audit revealed. According to the report released Monday, the probation and parole division had the largest amount of unlocated weapons and bulletproof vests; at 12 weapons and 16 vests unaccounted for from October 2010 to September 2013. Pam Laborde, communications director for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, told NOLA.com eleven of the 12 missing weapons were stolen, some from officers’ vehicles and one firearm was destroyed during a fire at an agent’s house.
