| DOC says it thwarted inmate's escape attempt |

The Department of Corrections prevented an escape attempt by a state prison inmate Monday morning in Sioux Falls. Inmate Alonzo Young was transported by ambulance from the Jameson Annex of the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls to a local hospital on Sunday after claiming he had taken a substantial amount of medication, according to a DOC news release. He was admitted to the hospital for evaluation. While using the bathroom in the hospital room at 11:25 a.m. Monday, Young brandished a metal object approximately 8 ½ inches long and waved it at DOC staff members. The two DOC staffers were able to wrestle the object away from the inmate, as hospital security staff members were called to assist, the DOC said. Read More. |
