It's cop versus cop in a strange arrest story out of Fitchburg, Mass. An on-duty corrections officer for the Worcester County, Mass., Sheriff's Department was arrested last week in Fitchburg while going to pick up a prisoner. Thirty-seven-year-old Joseph Coggans faces numerous charges, including failing to stop for police and resisting arrest. Coggans was driving an SUV with its lights flashing as he led a van to pick up an inmate. Fitchburg officer Joanne Bairos said the SUV was driving erratically. She met up with Coggans at Fitchburg District Court. Her superiors say Coggans was uncooperative and the arrest was justified. But a lawyer for the sheriff's department said Bairos interfered with Coggan's duties. |
