| Florida corrections secretary to visit South Florida prison |

MIAMI — Florida's corrections secretary will visit a prison in the southern part of the state to assist an investigation into the death of a mentally ill prisoner who allegedly was left in a shower so hot that his skin separated from his body, officials said Wednesday. Department of Corrections Secretary Mike Crews will meet with Miami-Dade police officials, the corrections department said in a news release. He will also travel around the state to assess the operation of other prisons. The announcement comes several weeks after the American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International and other human rights groups sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice asking for a federal investigation.
