A 19-year-old Chicago man already being held in the Cook County (Ill.) Jail on murder charges has been charged in the slaying Nov. 17 of a teenage inmate in a fight.
Reginald Flemister of the 6000 block of South Lafayette Avenue was charged late Nov. 19 with first-degree murder in the death of Jamar Rodgers, 17, of Blue Island. Tom Stanton, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office, said Flemister is to appear in the Criminal Courts Building for a bond hearing last Saturday.
Flemister had been in the jail since last January, charged in the shooting death of a South Side store employee in a robbery. Investigators said Flemister stabbed Rodgers with a homemade knife while Rodgers was arguing with another inmate.
Rodgers was being held in the jail in a maximum-security wing set aside for young inmates taking high-school equivalency classes. He had been in the jail since July on charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking.
