WAYNESVILLE – No one is designed to wear an orange jumpsuit for life. That’s the main thing Sheriff Greg Christopher tries to impart to inmates as they prepare to leave prison behind — that no one belongs behind bars, especially a second time. But as he told this to convicts trying to build a new, better life, he knew the resources just weren’t there to help them make it happen. “I was seeing all these individuals who would leave the detention center, and in talking with them about their plans, their next steps, I realized they just didn’t have one,” Christopher said. “Once they would leave, after serving their time, they really had no place to go and nowhere to help them change their lives.” Read More. |
