A transgender woman from Rome is fighting for her right to maintain her hormone treatments while serving sentences for burglary, escape and other charges. The Southern Poverty Law Center has taken up the case of Ashley Diamond, who was held in the Floyd County Jail until her transfer to Valdosta State Prison. According to a SPLC release, since entering the prison in 2012, Diamond has been denied the female hormones she has been receiving for roughly half her life. “Her voice has deepened.
