| Shoch expects county prison to ace state inspection |

SUNBURY — The Northumberland County Prison recently was inspected by the state Department of Corrections, and the more than 100-year-old lockup was found to have some policy issues, but Rick Shoch, county commissioner and prison board vice chairman, said the ensuing report showed only that language in some policies needs to be updated. Also under scrutiny was the prison’s noncompliance with Title 37, Chapter 95, of the state code for county jails. That code states that if a prisoner is aggrieved by prison conditions or the actions of another inmate, he must exhaust the administrative remedies available in that chapter before a writ of habeas corpus seeking discharge or transfer to another institution will be considered.
