DOVER — As an influx of illegal immigrants continues to cross American borders, none of those individuals have been transported to the Strafford County House of Corrections. Though the number of immigrants detained at the county jail has made headlines in recent days as unusual figure, the number of detainees currently at the jail is status quo, officials say. Listing 41 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees at the facility as of Monday, County Administrator Ray Bower and jail superintendent Bruce Pelkie said that number is what the jail has on average at any given time.
