| Inmate suicide leaves more questions than answers |

STEVENS POINT Prosecutors, family members and the public likely never will know why Jose Luis Flores Aca killed Jamie Koch in August 2013. Family members will never be able to speak their minds in court, attorneys will never have a chance to argue for a life sentence, and a judge will never weigh in on the case before making a sentencing decision. And because of attorney-client privilege, no one will ever know what was said in two letters Flores Aca left in the cell in which he hanged himself. Flores Aca committed suicide in the Portage County Jail last week, leaving the Stevens Point Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections to investigate how the suicide happened and what, if any, procedures might need to be changed at the jail. Flores Aca pleaded guilty June 27 to strangling Koch, driving her body to Waupaca and burning it in a car in August 2013. Officers arrested him several days later. Read More. |
