State officials are investigating whether correction officers padded their overtime with hours they didn't work. Connecticut Department of Correction records show that 51 officers were paid nearly $1.3 million in overtime in the 2002-2003 budget year to shuttle inmates between prison to court, according to The Hartford Courant. Gov. M. Jodi Rell called that figure "unacceptable." She wrote a letter to Correction Commissioner Theresa LantzĀ [Nov. 18], directing her to investigate the "extraordinarily high" overtime charges. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is also investigating the matter. He said he received an allegation from a confidential informant that the officers might have padded their time sheets. "We're treating it as a whistle-blower complaint," Blumenthal said. |
