NAPANOCH >> It was no ordinary Mass that Cardinal Timothy Dolan celebrated Tuesday afternoon. The archbishop of New York paid a call to inmates at Eastern Correctional Facility in the Wawarsing hamlet of Napanoch. The occasion was the 50th anniversary of St. Jude’s Chapel on the grounds of the maximum-security prison that is home to 910 inmates. Sixty-four percent of them are from the five boroughs of New York City, and 23 percent are Catholic. “You couldn’t come to see me, so I came to see you,” Dolan said in his characteristic amicable manner. “I knew you’d be here.” Read More. |
