LOWELL -- In her 14 years at The Wish Project, Donna Hunnewell has never received mail from a prisoner. Last week, Hunnewell, the executive director of the charity, was handed 23 envelopes stamped: "This correspondence is forwarded from a Massachusetts Correctional Institution." "I was intrigued before I even opened the envelope," Hunnewell said. "Even the mail lady said, 'I've never seen you get this much.' " The stack of envelopes was from the Bridgewater Correctional Complex, a state prison, and contained $188 in 23 separate donations for the victims of last month's Branch Street fire. Read More. |
