| Inmates benefit from 'Healthy Michigan' expansion as state saves $19 million |

LANSING -- The "Healthy Michigan" Medicaid expansion had some significant benefits for an unexpected part of Michigan's population: inmates in the state's prisons. Approved Medicaid applications for inmates in state custody nearly quadrupled over the third quarter of the state's 2014 fiscal year, which ran from April 1 to June 30. More than 320 inmates had their applications approved, with the largest growth coming in May and June, according to a quarterly report the department is required to submit to legislators and the state's budget director.
