A former drug and alcohol counselor at the Pa. State Correctional Institution-Pittsburgh was sentenced to probation for having sex with two inmates. Leean Harkins, 36, of Schwenksville, Montgomery County, was given the two-year sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of institutional sexual assault in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court. The charges stemmed from affairs Harkins had with two inmates at the Pittsburgh prison in 2001 and 2002. Harkins worked at that prison from March 2001 until she moved to the State Correctional Institution-Graterford in February 2002, where she was also charged with having sex with an inmate graduated from a drug, alcohol and behavioral program at that prison, court records show. It wasn't immediately clear if the Graterford charge was still pending Wednesday. Harkins' estranged husband reported the relationships to authorities in 2002 after visiting her apartment and finding letters, cards and pictures the inmates had sent her. |
