Two prison health care companies have hired a powerful law firm to protect Alabama's prison system against a lawsuit the Southern Poverty Law Center filed against it in June. Maynard Cooper & Gale is defending the state against the SPLC suit, which alleges that inadequate health care was provided to the state's inmates, prison officials said. An ADOC spokeswoman said the state's contracts with Corizon and MHM Correctional Services requires that the health care companies pay for any legal work in case of a lawsuit. Corizon provides the bulk of Alabama's inmate health care while MHM provides the mental health care. Read More. |
