| S.C. Inmate Gets 20 Years in Murder Plot Against Corrections Captain |

A state prison inmate who admits to being part of a conspiracy to murder a state Department of Corrections captain was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in federal prison. 31-year-old Sean Echols will first serve the remaining 20 years of his state sentence on a separate burglary and assault-and-battery conviction, then will serve 20 years in federal prison. Now-retired Corrections Capt. Robert Johnson was in his home on the morning of March 5, 2010, when someone kicked in the door and shot him six times. He survived, but has been through 17 surgeries and will have to have more, and still has medical problems. Johnson was in charge of finding contraband in the prison, including cell phones, and corrections officials say inmates used some of those illegal cell phones to set up the hit. Read More. |
