TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- Darren Rainey, Randall Jordan-Aparo and Justin Campos represent some of the tragic deaths in Florida prisons. Rainey and Jordan-Aparo allegedly died during aggressive punishments from corrections officers. Justin Campos died from a gang hit. His mother said officials knew he was a target. "We are working diligently to fix the problem we have already identified," said Michael Crews, head of the Florida Department of Corrections. Officers at Dade Correctional Institution are accused of locking Rainey in a scolding hot shower until he died. After it became public two years later, Crews took action firing the warden and assistant warden. Now he's announced big changes across the board. Read More. |
