A corrections officer was injured by an inmate at the Central Violation and Probation Center near Smyrna, Del., prison officials said last Monday. The inmate, Kenneth Holland, 34, faces charges in the attack. He was serving one year of work release for attempted theft, prison officials said. Corrections officer Lt. Adam Bramble suffered minor cuts to his face and left hand during the scuffle. He was treated at Kent General Hospital. State Department of Correction spokeswoman Gail Stallings Minor said the assault happened at 6 a.m. Friday at the probation center, near the Delaware Correctional Center near Smyrna. Minor said the inmate approached Bramble in the open dormitory area and started taunting him. Holland "had been acting out during breakfast and was still agitated," Minor said. "Bramble told him to settle down or he would get in trouble, but his behavior escalated." Holland continued following Bramble and picked up a chair and swung it at the officer, Minor said. Bramble called for assistance and other corrections officers responded and subdued Holland. During the scuffle, Bramble was cut on the left side of his neck and left hand, Minor said. |
