ST. LOUIS — Attorneys for a Missouri inmate convicted of slaying a Fort Wayne truck driver have asked a federal court to postpone his lethal injection, saying two top officials with the Department of Corrections lied under oath about use of the sedative midazolam in executions. A petition filed late Thursday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City asks that Earl Ringo Jr.'s execution scheduled for Tuesday be put on hold until a hearing can determine whether his constitutional rights have been violated. Ringo, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was sentenced to death for a July 4, 1998, double slaying at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Columbia, where he was a former employee. Read More. |
