Police are searching for an escaped murder convict in downtown Denver.

They say the prisoner stowed away in a truck making a delivery in the area. When the truck stopped, the prisoner jumped out and ran off. It happened shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Police are searching for 40-year-old Jody Aquirre. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and no shirt.

He was serving a life sentence without parole for murder, arson and burglary at the Buena Vista Corrections Facility in Chaffee County. The prison makes saddles for companies to sell. Aquirre stowed away in a truck that was making a delivery to the Colorado Saddlery at 1631 15th Street.

Aquirre was convicted of setting fire to a print shop on Broadway in 1992 that killed a Denver firefighter.
