Rescue volunteers responded to two emergency medical calls at the York County (Maine) Jail overnight for a male inmate reported to have a self-inflicted wound. Richard Marks (no age and prior address available) was transported to Goodall Hospital twice for self-inflicted cuts. Marks refused treatment both times, according to Capt. John Angis of the York County Jail. Angis said the injuries were not life-threatening. Marks said he had used a metal sliver he found in the dayroom of his unit and that he swallowed the sliver after cutting himself, according to Angis. Neither x-rays nor searches of Marks's jail cell turned up the weapon. Marks, who is in his late 20s, has cut himself several times, Angis said, and is checked every 10 minutes. He is charged with armed robbery in Sanford and is being held at the jail pending trial. |
