| Carol O'Brien named new Massachusetts Department of Corrections commissioner |

BOSTON - State officials on Wednesday named a former entry level corrections counselor as commissioner of the Department of Correction. The new commissioner, Carol Higgins O'Brien, also worked under Gov. Jane Swift as undersecretary for criminal justice in the Executive Office of Public Safety and as deputy superintendent at the DOC, where she has held posts for 15 years and served in three facilities. After working under Gov. Swift, O'Brien also worked as superintendent of the Essex County Correctional Facility under Sheriff Frank Cousins. O'Brien worked most recently as assistant superintendent of human services for the Middlesex County Sheriff's office. Read More. |
