Tallahassee, Florida -- A Department of Corrections officers resigned Wedneday after his report of what happened in the case of an inmate who escaped from a work detail in Pasco County did not match the facts in the case. "The primary mission of the Florida Department of Corrections is public safety. By working closely with Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco, we were able to quickly identify a discrepancy reported to us by Officer (Henry) Blackwelder and what actually took place," said Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Mike Crews in a release. "As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, we immediately took action. The officer charged with supervising the work squad was called in to explain the difference between the report he submitted and the evidence gathered by Sheriff Nocco and his investigators. When confronted with this information, Officer Blackwelder submitted his resignation." Read More. |
