Investigation found no wrongdoing by prison directors |

LINCOLN — An independent investigation into the Nebraska prison system's errors in calculating hundreds of inmate sentences concluded the head attorney there should get the most blame for years of miscalculations. The Jackson-Lewis law firm investigation, released Thursday by Gov. Dave Heineman, found no wrongdoing by either Corrections Director Michael Kenney or former Director Bob Houston. The report said it appeared neither man knew about a Nebraska Supreme Court decision that spelled out how to calculate sentences correctly. Investigators found no evidence the department disregarded the Supreme Court decision in order to lower the prison population or for any other strategic reason. Read More. |
