$750,000 grant to help Pinellas offenders adjust outside prison |

ST. PETERSBURG — Some Pinellas County offenders soon will be getting more guidance and hands-on training from case managers while on probation. The Florida Department of Corrections received a $750,000 grant to fund an intensive case-management pilot program aimed at keeping nonviolent offenders in Pinellas from violating probation and going back to jail. The SMART Re-entry Probation grant will be used to hire and train two senior probation officers during the next two years who will work in areas of the county with high concentrations of serious offenders.
