Prisons get grant to reduce new crimes

MONTPELIER, Vt. —The Vermont Corrections Department says it has received a $1 million federal grant to help reduce the number of people who are returned to prison after committing additional crimes.

The department says Vermont is one of five states that have received the grants under The Second Chance Act.

Vermont and the other states will be eligible to receive up to $2 million in additional funding over the next two years.
