| Inmate in prison stabbing serving 40 years for rape |

The inmate accused of stabbing two correction officers and injuring two others at the Elmira Correctional Facility on Wednesday is serving 40 years for an Albany County rape. The inmate was identified as 38-year-old Darius Ashley. The incident happened shortly before noon after two officers entered a cell at the maximum-security prison to perform a random search, a spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said.
