Sheriff's deputies ordered a lockdown Thursday of the downtown Los Angeles Men's Central Jail after a report of an inmate escape, authorities said. Sheriff's officials couldn't confirm the escape but said they had been conducting a head count of all inmates since 7:30 p.m. KCAL-TV reported that authorities cordoned off parts of downtown and footage showed deputies had found what may be the inmate's orange jumpsuit near a bus station. The TV station also reported the inmate is 35 years old and was being held for investigation of drug possession. No other details were immediately available. |
