A Wyoming State Penitentiary inmate has been charged with blackmail in connection with a series of threatening letters sent to current and former Wyoming state legislators and other officials. David Woodruff is accused of sending threatening letters in October to current and former Wyoming Sens. Mike Massie, Jim Anderson, Grant Larson and April Brimmer Kunz, as well as to current and former state Reps. Carolyn Paseneaux, Del McOmie and Patricia Nagel, according to court documents. In addition, prosecutors allege Woodruff filed a ''Complaint for Death of Government Officials'' with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa naming President Bush and 20 other individuals. In all cases, the documents threaten ''the recipients with death if the defendant is not released from custody,'' court documents say. The case was investigated by Ed Lake of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation. Woodruff is serving a sentence of 15 to 50 years for first-degree sexual assault. He has a current release date of 2033. |
