Allegan County’s new jail is now open, two years after the groundbreaking at the renovated furniture factory. Officials moved 166 inmates on Friday night, Oct. 3, from the old downtown facility at 112 Walnut St. to the new Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and Corrections Center at 640 River St. in Allegan. “This marks a milestone in Allegan County history as we open this new corrections center and lock the doors to the Walnut Street facility, which had been open since 1961,” said Capt.
