New Va. initiative helps women former inmates return to society

Last week Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced a new statewide inmate re-entry effort that will be more comprehensive in scope than the one currently in place.

The effort includes the creation of new statewide re-entry coordinator position and an online re-entry portal.

Herring wants the new effort to expand upon the re-entry program that has been in place for state correctional facilities to local jails. The effort will help sheriffs prepare inmates for release and give them the tools and connections to services that they will need in the outside world.
