| Combination of state’s corrections units sought |

State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, is working on a piece of legislation that would combine the state's Department of Corrections and pardons and parole — and give the DOC more oversight of community corrections programs around the state. Orr proposed late in this year's legislative session the merging of pardons and parole under corrections as a way to save money. That bill died when it ran out of time, but Orr will bring it back next year. In 2016, he is also suggesting that DOC create uniform standards for and monitor community corrections programs.
