A New York City Corrections officer was indicted Thursday on charges he raped a female inmate at the Rikers Island jail.
A Bronx grand jury indicted Jerome Reyes, of Queens, on charges of rape, sex abuse and falsifying business records, tampering with public records and offering a false instrument for filing. Reyes was also accused of tampering with a logbook in order to conceal his whereabouts at the time of the rape.
Reyes is accused of raping a female inmate in her cell at the Rose Singer Detention Center for Women on Rikers Island in August. Reyes -- who's free on bond -- will be arraigned on October 31st. If convicted on the rape charge, he could face a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
