| State corrections director addresses wild Aramark prison allegations |

The state department of corrections has been under fire over a private company that took over prison food service. There have been allegations of maggots in food, workers having sex with inmates and drug smuggling as more than 100 people have been fired. Throughout, the state corrections director Daniel Heyns has never meet with the media on camera, until today. It was the Michigan Legislature that ordered the corrections director to fire about 300 union workers who provided food services at the state's 31 correctional facilities and replaced them with private sector employees. The director says he didn't oppose the hiring of the Aramark Corporation but having been a sheriff, he instinctively knew there would be challenges. "I don't think I ever under estimated how difficult this was going to be," Heyns said. "A lot of people I think underestimated the scope and size and the enormity of this project."
