Three men were sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of gunning down a Gwinnett County teenager after an argument over sneakers. A jury found Andrew Murray, Tavaughn Saylor and Larnell Sillah guilty in the December 2012 shooting death of 14-year-old Paul Sampleton Jr. Sampleton's bound body was found on the kitchen floor of his Grayson townhouse. Police believe the incident began as a robbery, and that Sampleton, a freshman football player at Grayson High School, was targeted for his brand new Nike Air Jordan sneakers. Investigators recovered the shoes and several other stolen items, including clothing and electronics, from the suspects. The three defendants were found guilty of 19 counts of 20 counts, including malice murder, four counts of felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, conspiracies, gang activity and a violation of the Racketeering influenced and corrupt organizations act (RICO). The one not guilty verdict concerned a burglary occurring a few days prior to the murder. Read More. |
