Federal prison on lock down

All 622 inmates of the federal prison in Victorville, Calif. were locked down, officials confirmed last Monday.
"The institution will remain on lock-down status until ongoing security assessments are completed," prison officials said in a written statement. "The institution remains secure and inmates and staff remain safe."
Prison officials would not say how long prisoners will be confined to their cells, why the action was taken or when it was initiated.
The prison, located at 13777 Air Expressway, has a staff of 291 people. Most of the inmates, 26 percent, are drug offenders; 24.3 percent are being held on robbery offenses; and 18.6 percent are jailed for violations regarding weapons, explosives or arson.
The other two facilities on the property - the Victorville Medium Security Federal Correctional Institute, which houses 1,697 inmates, and the Victorville-Camp, which houses 291 inmates - are not on lock down.
