A prison memo called them the “lost boys”: The prisoners who, as revealed by a June 15 World-Herald investigation, were released — in many cases years early — after the State Corrections Department defied two Nebraska Supreme Court rulings. The man tasked with rounding up the “lost boys,” Corrections Director Mike Kenney, admitted Friday that he “took a very lenient” view of state law when he “invented” a program to allow at least eight inmates to stay home rather than return to prison.
