| Union for jail employees wants 1,000 bed facility |

Mostly everyone agrees that the Lucas County jail is outdated and needs to be replaced. However, there is disagreement about the construction of the new building. On Tuesday, Lucas County Commissioners received a report from the DLR Group titled "New Jail Feasibility Study." In as much as the current jail has beds for 342 inmates and there are at least 425 inmates currently housed, the recommendation calls for a new jail to be built with a minimum of 448 beds up to a potential maximum of 572 beds.
