| DOC auditing use of force in prisons |

The Florida Department of Corrections has enlisted an independent auditor to review use of force policies in state detention facilities. The audits will be conducted in the coming weeks by the Association of State Correction Administrators, a national body of experts in the corrections field, a DOC news release said. Through on-site inspections and reviews of DOC policies, auditors will work to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and dangers in the current in the system and offer appropriate feedback for improvements. The audits are the latest in a series of DOC reform initiatives proposed by Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Crews this August. The reforms come in the wake of public outcry over several high profile allegations of inmates abuse within state facilities, and Crews has said the DOC is tackling employee misconduct and inmate abuse head-on.
