| 565 Virginia jobs cut, correctional facilities to be closed to help cover state revenue gap |

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced today the state will cut 565 jobs — almost all of them in the Department of Corrections — and close several correctional facilities to help close the revenue gap in the two-year state budget. McAuliffe also said the state will leave more than 40 vacant state police jobs unfilled, sell a state police airplane, and mark up the price of liquor sold through the state monopoly. The governor announced the actions as steps toward cutting $192.4 million from executive branch agencies in the two-year budget as part of his strategy for closing a $2.4 million projected revenue gap in the biennial budget.
