Committee will subpoena governor's testimony on corrections decisions

A legislative special investigative committee took a monumental step Thursday, voting to issue a subpoena for Gov. Dave Heineman to appear before the committee later this month.

The Department of Correctional Services Special Investigative Committee voted unanimously to issue the subpoena. The committee is made up of Democrats, Republicans and an Independent.

Such a step may be unprecedented in recent history.

Heineman responded after the committee met in executive session that he welcomed the opportunity to answer questions and "clear up any miscommunications" about the Corrections Department's handling of sentence miscalculations.
