A former Knox County, Ky., deputy jailer has received a three year prison sentence for pulling over and demanding money from motorists on Interstates 75 and 64. Clarence Wilson was given a one-year sentence Dec. 2 on each of three counts of unlawful imprisonment. Wilson's sentence will run concurrently with a two-year term he received in Montgomery County in September, said his attorney, David Hoskins of Corbin. Wilson was taking an inmate from Clay County to the Lewis County jail in January. Motorists in Fayette, Clark and Montgomery told police that Wilson had pulled them over, threatened them and demanded money. Wilson referred to the inmate, who was out of handcuffs and sitting in the front seat with a bottle of wine, as "his deputy," police said. Wilson apologized Dec. 2 for his behavior. He said he couldn't remember much of what had happened. Hoskins told Circuit Judge William Jennings that the incident was out of character for Wilson, whom he called the victim of a feud between Knox Judge-Executive Raymond Smith and former Jailer Preston Smith. Wilson has been in jail since his Jan. 6 arrest and has earned time for good behavior. A parole hearing has been scheduled. |
